“Stand Tall” Ikebana Vase

A hand made vase designed to display unique flower arrangements designed by you in the style of Japanese art. Ikebana stand included.

What is the literal meaning of ikebana?

“Giving life to flowers”

生け花 – Ikebana (literally “giving life to flowers”) is the Japanese art of flower arrangement, in which the arrangement brings nature and humanity closer together.

The concept behind this Ikebana Vase was inspired by my own path through grief.

I wanted to wilt, I wanted to lie down and hide but after far too short a time, I had no choice but to stand up, to keep going. People around me complimented my resilience but I couldn’t see it, all I felt was someone else’s body walking me to work, to obligations and to smile.

In hindsight now I can see, I can see that my method of healing/avoidance perhaps wasn’t the healthiest, although it is still something to be proud of. I kept going because he needed me to, because my brother would not want me to give up and I now wear my pain as a badge of honour – a cut so deep that I simply cannot repair entirely, and that only comes with the fortune of loving someone so much.

The walls of this piece kept collapsing on me due to the delicate materials, but I didn’t want to let it win, I persevered and through trial and training the material I started to see the shape and edges become petals, a Japanese camellia flower came to mind.

The name “Stand Tall” is bifold in meaning, where literally the design of Ikebana Flower arranging calls for flowers, stems and branches to stand tall and secondly to the human element of the design where we must remember to give ourselves credit for standing tall despite adversity, no matter how big or small.

I have only made one so far but I am happy to make more to order should anyone be interested.

This clay is not water resistant so not appropriate for arrangements that require water, but especially designed for dried flowers or temporary fleeting arrangements to remind us of the fragility of life itself.

I also hand incorporated black sand from Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland into the clay from our honeymoon trip in 2023, for added unique texture and if you have ever suffered loss, mental health issues or being stuck in a rut I am sure you can empathise that travel, especially to countries with extraordinary nature, and culture is healing. .

We aim to dispatch in 1-4 Days.
