Welcome to Beò. We are a small family-run business centered around sharing our heritage and love for Scotland and all it has to offer. We are passionate about working with small local companies to produce and sell authentic and economically conscious products for your home and lifestyle.
Scotland is steeped in tradition and colourful history. A kindred appreciation for the surrounding land, seas, and lochs is vivid and unapologetic.
Working side by side with the natural world is a part of everyday life.
Beò is the Gaelic word for living, Gaelic being the native tongue of Scotland. This ancient language is still spoken widely throughout the mainland, but especially in the surrounding islands. A word the Scottish like to use to describe their style of living is “Coorie”.
You may have heard of the Scandinavian term “Hygge” which conjures up visions of candles flickering through the evening, frost on the windows while safely inside cuddled up in a blanket in front of an open fire. But the direct translation of “Coorie” is to crouch or stoop down, so how does this compare to the coziness of “Hygge”? Well, the Scots use this term to describe a feeling of “snuggling down” with the aim to live a simpler, slower life, appreciating the outdoors and how nature can heal even the deepest of emotional wounds.
We hope to share with you the lifestyle and traditions of Scotland and Coorie so that you can bring elements of these practices into your homes and lives, to restore calmness and clarity in an ever more chaotic world.
